Ware County playing for a state title

Gators have lost two previous appearances in title game

WAYCROSS, Ga. – The Ware County Gators football team travels to the Georgia Dome tonight to play Gainesville (Ga.) in the Class AAAAA title game.

The Gators are looking for their first title in school history. Head Coach Ed Dudley knows it will be a tall task beating the Red Elephants but he likes his team's chances.

"They are very high in character," Dudley said. "They work together extremely well. I can't say enough things about our team this fall and everything they've accomplished. We just got one more goal to hit."

Two-way star Xavier Tobler has inspired the Gators playoff run. Tobler has 27 touchdowns as a running back and 120 tackles as a linebacker. He scored three touchdowns last week, including the game winner in overtime, as Ware County beat Northside Warner Robins.

The Gators are back in the title game for the first time since 2007 when they lost to Northside Warner Robins. Tobler and his teammates attribute this year's success to summer workouts.

"We came in the summer and met," Tobler said. "We said we're going to be state champs and we're here.
