JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – President Barack Obama announced Wednesday that Vice President Joe Biden will lead an effort to come up with "concrete proposals" on preventing atrocities like the shootings that occurred in Newtown, Conn.

"But the fact that this problem is complex can no longer be an excuse for doing nothing," said President Obama. "The fact that we can't prevent every act of violence doesn't mean that we can't steadily reduce the violence and prevent the very worst violence."

The President said he wants proposals on preventing tragedies like the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in the next couple weeks and then he will push them forward as fast as he can.

Congressman-elect Ted Yoho will just be sworn in to the House of Representatives that first week of January.

"Those things have got to stop," said Yoho. "That pains us every time we see that in this country. And you know, we're a better country than that and we need to do better than that."

But the issues coming from Newtown's tragedy will certainly demand his attention as the country responds to the President's call for action.

"I'm with him 100 percent on curbing gun violence. How we do that, I'm sure we'll be at odds," said Yoho.

Congressman Ander Crenshaw sent Channel 4 a statement about the Newtown shootings, offering sympathy to the families and the community, promising change.

"All facets of this horrific crime will be carefully reviewed, and in that process, I fully expect that the policies and laws around gun control will and should be part of the national conversation that follows," said Crenshaw.

"We need to be responsible," said Yoho. "If you are a gun owner, if you drive a car, you need to be responsible. If you drink, you need to be responsible. We need to tread softly and not have a knee-jerk reaction and get into something that we'll regret down the road."
