Search on for driver in deadly hit-and-run

Pedestrian's identity not yet released

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol was searching for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a man on the Westside late Thursday night.

Troopers say a van headed east on Timuquana Road just west of Seaboard Avenue about 10 p.m. struck the pedestrian walking east on Timuquana, according to the FHP report.

The FHP has identified the victim as 46-year-old Kinley Collard, of Jacksonville. Troopers say the van struck the man and left the scene.

"We do have two witnesses we're in the process of interviewing to find out if the pedestrian was in the grass, on the sidewalk, or possibly by the white line.  That is still under investigation," said FHP Sgt. Tina Hall.

Investigators say the van was a 1985-2005 Chevrolet van, either a Astro or Safari model.  It was white with a 6-inch blue stripe across the middle of the vehicle and should have front and/or left rear-end damage.

Anyone with any information about the vehicle or this hit-and-run is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 904-695-4000.
