Deputies say Vincent Cruz, 20, and Antwon Ollis, 19, were both shot and drove themselves away from the scene until they were able to meet up with authorities who took them to the hospital for treatment. Both are Valencia College students and both are expected to survive the shooting, said deputies.

Deputies were unable to determine the number of shooters, but witnesses said two men were seen running from the area.

Deputies were also unable to determine if the victims knew the shooter(s) or if the crime was random.

UCF officials said police were searching for the shooters near the main campus area. UCF sent out an alert to students, saying, "Shooting near main campus. Police searching for suspects. Report suspicious activity to 911." However, campus did not go on lockdown, said UCF officials.

Students who live at the apartment complex said they felt uneasy knowing the shooter(s) remains loose and were concerned the crime happened on the first day back to class.

"I didn't expect all that to happen and it's only the first day of the new semester, " said Kenneth Davis, who heard several shots fired. "It's just the two guys running around, i'm kind of a little on edge about that. not too sure about them running around."
