Shooting, body at Northside apartment complex

Man found dead about 200 yards in nearby woods

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Homicide detectives are investigating after a body was found early Saturday morning near a Northside apartment complex were a shooting was reported.

Police were initially called to the River Oaks Apartments at 4:30 a.m., where they found blood in a breezeway of the 300 building but no sign of a victim.  K9 teams were brought in and found a man's body in the woods about 200 yards from the building.

Investigators aren't sure how victim ended up in the woods, whether he walked there after being shot and collapsed or was carried there.

Some neighbors heard at least one gun shot, but police have not found any witnesses to the shooting. 

Police said the identity of the victim would be determined by the medical examiner and they had no suspect information, but were still canvassing the area to learn more about the shooting.
