FIVE POINTS, Fla. – With a quick shave and a hope for a cure, supporters are making a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer.
It's all through the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Every dollar earned goes toward cancer research.
"Any kinds of hair on the table can be donated. We can donate that for wigs," said Sam Gilbert of the St. Baldrick's Foundation. "Essentially, it's just shaving your head, as just a way of being in solidarity with children who lose their hair from cancer treatment."
This is an issue very near and dear to Scott Johnson's heart, whose 8-year-old daughter is battling leukemia.
"She is the toughest little girl you'll ever meet," said Johnson. "We joke all the time and her catchphrase is, 'I'm going to kick cancer's butt!' And she does it every day."
For others, it's about having a great time, doing a good thing and to make a difference, and it really means a lot to some.
"St. Baldrick's is amazing. They've raised $120 million in eight years for children's cancer research," said Johnson. "It's a wonderful cause and a wonderful foundation."
Officials with the organization say their goal Sunday was to raise $20,000. They told Channel 4's Ashley Harding there is a very good chance they could surpass that goal.
