JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With hundreds of people still crowding One Spark and the Suns playing at the Baseball Grounds, downtown Jacksonville was the place to be Saturday night.
Four days into One Spark, there was also Saturday's baseball game, plus Carrie Underwood performed at the arena.
"We just got here a little while ago, so we're just really enjoying the experience of seeing all these people in the city and exploring all of the opportunities we have," said Sue Bailey, Neptune Beach resident.
But with good fun can come heavy traffic, and all the changes that go along with it. For starters, the Main Street Bridge was closed until 10 p.m. Saturday.
To keep things running smoothly, Jacksonville police said if you're heading to downtown events, like One Spark, you should take I-95 and use the Convention Center exit and the Acosta Bridge.
If you're heading to the Sports Complex area, police said you should use the Hart and Mathews bridges, plus Union and Beaver streets.
"There happens to be a lot on the same night," said Asst. Chief Leonard Propper of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "That's why we wanted to reach out and just get the public an idea on how they can get to where they're going faster and more efficiently."
As always, police encourage visitors and drivers to be safe. They said the good guys will be out to make sure everything goes according to plan.
"There will be policemen at all of the venues helping with directions, crossing the street, traffic and the detours," said Propper. "We feel very comfortable that this is a safe environment, and it's going to be a great time."
