JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As Jacksonville observes Victims' Rights Week, some people in the community who work to help victims were honored Tuesday afternoon.
The Mayor's Victim Assistance Advisory Council presented its annual awards to a number of victim advocates, including those from law enforcement and the judiciary.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Officer Ike Brown Sr. received the Lifetime Achievement Award. During his long career with JSO, he's worked to fight crime, but he became a crime victim himself in 2002, when his son was murdered in a robbery.
The killer is now spending life in prison, and Brown has been visiting him as he tries to now have a positive impact on the lives of others.
"I'm very grateful for the young man who, although he murdered my son, he's taken time to speak to other kids and to other youth out there about choices and consequences," Brown said. "And it's just important that you think before you act, because once you act, sometimes its too late."
A member of the Channel 4 team was the media award honoree at this year's luncheon. Organizers singled out Assignment Manager Frank Powers for the work he does in helping to report crimes and telling the stories of the victims to bring justice and peace to their families.
