"Welcome To Rockville" festival rocks Met Park

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Welcome To Rockville is billed as the biggest rock concert to ever hit Northeast Florida, but it's hitting a sour note with some of the residents who live near the St. Johns River.

City council members chose to waive noise regulations at Metropolitan Park until Tuesday, making it possible for a very loud and booming concert to take place.

Noise is just part of the concern for people who live on the south side of the St. Johns River near Bishop Kenny High School. A couple of the other concerns are the vulgar language that they say they can hear all day with this event, and the bass, which they say is enough to rattle their windows.

Promoters for the event say that the noise levels will be within the levels that are required of them.

George Kruer lives near the river and said the concert is just too noisy.

"I think these concerts would be better suited in an enclosed environment, like the arena. Perhaps out at the equestrian center, where it's not going to impact people's quality of life," Kruer said.

Carlos Boblete said he hopes there can be a compromise next year.

"If they don't like it, there's gotta be some kind of compromise. That's what we're all about, one community, one love. Music is the universal language," Boblete said.

The music at this year's two-day festival starts at noon both days, and the last band each day is scheduled to take the stage after 8:30 p.m.
