Driver critical in hit-and-run crash on Butler Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A driver was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on Butler Boulevard late Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said two vehicles were traveling westbound, just east of Kernan Boulevard, about 11:15 p.m. Witnesses said the vehicles were traveling at a high speed and weaving in and out of traffic.

A Volkswagen Beetle struck the right rear of a Toyota Tacoma, and the driver of the pickup lost control and struck the inside concrete barrier wall. The truck then overturned several times, troopers said.

The driver of the pickup truck, whose identity was not released pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in critical condition.

Troopers said the Volkswagen Beetle is blue and model year 1998-2010. It will have moderate to severe damage to the left front of the car. The left front headlight should be partially missing as well.

There was no information about the driver.
