JACKSONVILLE-Fla. – It's a process that began in September, trying to figure out ways to create a brighter future for Jacksonville. After getting input from 14,000 people, Jax2025 finally has a plan for making that happen.
The report was released to much fanfare at the West Touchdown Club at EverBank Field. The process goes from identifying areas that need to be addressed, to actually addressing those problems in what the city calls the "built it" phase.
Some of the goals in the report are to make the city clean and green, transportation hub, vibrant arts and entertainment scene, diverse and inclusive.
"For too long, we've waited for people to solve our problems for us. What we've seen during this is people coming together with the overwhelming support that we are going to work together to help this investment, " said Ben Warner President of JCCI.
Mayor Alvin Brown believes that in 12 years Jacksonville will be completely different, and a top destination spot.
"It takes all of us working together. Everyone has a stake in the game. Everyone can play a role in making Jacksonville a better place where people want to work, live, and raise a family," said Brown.
Education was also a topic at Jax2025. Superintendent of Duval County Public schools Dr. Nikolai Vitti said instruction will change starting next year. Plus, every elementary school will have a full-time music teacher. Vitti also says every middle and high school will have a Dean of Discipline and the code of conduct is being redone.
Jax2025 will hold future meeting with ways to come up with specific goals to reach its target.
