I-95 resurfacing begins from Duval County line to Georgia state line

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation this week started a project to resurface 12.2 miles of Interstate 95 from the Duval County line to the Georgia state line.

The $11.6 million construction project also includes resurfacing the intersection of I-95 and U.S. 17 and the parking lot of the Florida Welcome Center on I-95.

The work should be done in early 2014, officials said. The project contract specifies 260 days to complete the work and allows extra time to be added for weather delays and unforeseen construction circumstances.

Lane closings on I-95 will be needed for resurfacing construction activities and will occur only at night. Single lanes can be closed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and dual lanes between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Duval Asphalt Products Inc. of Jacksonville is the contractor.
