Immigrant wins $1M prize, 'living American dream'

Jacksonville man latest Florida Lottery millionaire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local man traveled to Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee this week to claim a $1 million prize in the 25th Anniversary Edition Millionaire Scratch-Off game.

Maximiliano Valdez-Torrez, 47, chose to receive the winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment in the amount of $804,353.10. He purchased his winning Scratch-Off ticket at Till Late, located at 8101 Old Kings Road South.

"I came to the United States in 1985 and at the time did not speak a word of English. Since then, I have become a U.S. citizen, learned to speak English and now I've won $1 million. I'm truly living the American Dream." said Valdez-Torrez.

Lottery officials say one $5 million prize and five $1 million prizes remain to be won in the game.
