Accident claims woman's life in St. Johns County

St. Augustine woman dies after another driver runs red light

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A Saturday morning accident at a busy St. Johns County intersection claimed the life of one woman.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 24-year-old Samantha Silvers, of St. Augustine, died after the crash on State Road 16 and Four Mile Road.

Troopers say 26-year-old Amber Pierle was driving a Ford pickup truck east on State Road 16 about 6:50 a.m.when the signal changed to red.

Silvers was on Four Mile Road and when the light changed, she attempted to turn left onto State Road 16  when Pierle's pickup struck the driver's side of Silvers' Mazda, according to the FHP report.

Silvers was transported to UF Health at Jacksonville, where she died.  Troopers say Pierle had minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

According to the FHP report, charges against Pierle are pending the outcome of the investigation.
