Mini horses to provide comfort to storm victims

Garcia and three of the horses from a farm outside Gainesville were invited to Newtown by the mother of one of the victims. The miniature horses nuzzled up against the kids, kissing and loving on them, making many smile for the first time since they saw their friends carried away in caskets.

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A Columbia County group that trains therapy animals will soon head to Oklahoma to help the victims of last week's massive tornado.

In January, the miniature horses with Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy spent two weeks in Newtown, Conn.

Details of that trip have been kept private, but the horses were there to bring comfort to the community after 26 teachers and students were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary school massacre.

Now, the horses plan to bring the same type of comfort to those in Oklahoma.

The group is currently located at the Oaks Equestrian Center in Lake City and will leave for Oklahoma on Tuesday morning. They'll spend anywhere from two days to a week in those devastated communities.
