Teenager passenger dies in Nassau County wreck
NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A teenage passenger in car that turned left in the path of a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 1 on Saturday night died and both drivers were hospitalized, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say a Toyota Camry driven by Migdelio Luis Torres 22, of Jacksonville, was northbound on U.S. 1 just north of the Duval-Nassau County border about 10:30 p.m. and attempted to turn left on Ratliff Road. The FHP says Torres turned into the path of a Dodge Ram driven by Heathe Ferguson, 37, of Callahan, which hit the passenger side of car at the intersection.
Both drivers and 17-year-old Justin Hurst of Atlantic Beach were taken to UF Health at Jacksonville, where Hurst died.
Troopers say Torres and Ferguson suffered only minor injuries.
Ratliff Road and one lane southbound of U.S. 1 were closed for several hours while the accident was investigated and cleared.
