JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University Boulevard was closed in two lanes Monday afternoon after a oil spill from a truck carrying vegetable oil.

The vegetable oil type substance from a local plant was being transported by a tanker truck. The tanker was traveling on University Blvd east around 4 p.m. when the spill happened.

The spill leaked onto the road at Phillips Highway and University intersection. A valve on the truck that was not properly secured started leaking, causing the spill.

According to police, an environmental contractor was called to clean up the lanes.

University was closed for about hours while crews cleaned up the spill.
