Judge denies motion to release Alexander on bond
Woman appealing 20-year sentence on aggravated battery convictions
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Duval County judge on Wednesday denied the motion by the lawyer for Marissa Alexander that she be released on bond pending her appeal of her aggravated battery convictions.
Alexander is serving a 20-year sentence for firing one shot into a wall during an argument with her estranged husband. She claimed self-defense under Florida's "stand your ground" law.
That petition was denied.
Alexander declined to accept a plea deal that would have given her three years in prison, and instead took the case to trial and was found guilty.
