The investigation began early Tuesday morning after a 19-year old man drove himself to Baptist Medical Center South after being shot in the lower chest. He was then flown to UF Health Jacksonville, where he met with a Jacksonville police officer and reported the shooting.

Detectives in St. Johns County took over when it was determined the shooting happened in a parking lot in the 400 block of State Road 13 North outside a Moe's restaurant in Julington Creek.

The teen said he was sitting in his vehicle waiting for an alleged drug transaction when a man jumped into the back seat and held a gun to his head. Deputies said the suspect demanded everything he had. They said the victim grabbed the gun and the two men struggled with the weapon before it discharged once into the victim's lower chest area.

The suspect then fled and the victim drove himself to the hospital, deputies said.

Through investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify a possible suspect. An arrest warrant was then obtained, and U.S. Marshals tracked the suspect to an address in Jacksonville, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Duval County jail on the St. Johns County charges.
