Man, 71, shot during attempted robbery
2 men sought by police
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating after a 71-year-old man was shot in a robbery attempt Saturday night on the Northside.
An officer said he was working a special assignment at Clanzel Brown Park in the 4500 block of Moncrief Road about 9:15 p.m. when he heard what sounded like a vehicle backfiring, according to a police report.
A short time later, someone went up to the officer and said a car crashed into a fence at the intersection of Golfair Boulevard and Moncrief Road.
A man was rendering aid to Charles Hall, who was shot in the back, according to the report.
Hall told police two men tried to rob him, approaching him from behind and saying, "Give it up pops." Hall said he didn't give them anything and sped away after they shot him.
He said the men were driving an older model green vehicle that could have been a Chevy or a Ford and looked to be a late 70s model.
Hall was taken to UF Health Jacksonville.
Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
