JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police say the suspect wanted in the robbery and shooting of two men outside an Applebee's restaurant on 103rd Street earlier this month is under arrest.
Anthony Simmons, 22, was arrested Wednesday night -- hours after the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office identified him as the suspect in the shooting of two men sitting outside the restaurant on 103rd street early the morning of Aug. 4.

Simmons is charged with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of armed robbery, plus several other charges, including fleeing and eluding arrest and aggravated assault on an officer.
He was booked into jail at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday and being held without bond pending a first appearance on the charges Thursday.

Witnesses said a man approached two women and three men who were lingering on a bench after leaving the restaurant when it closed at 2 a.m. According to police, the man asked them for money as if he was panhandling. After the victims handed him $2, he turned to walk away, but then turned back, pulled a gun and demanded their wallets and cellphones, according to the police.
When one of the victims stood up, he was shot in the chest, police said. A second victim still sitting on the bench was shot in the chin.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.
Both shooting victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
