Woman hit by car in New Town, taken to hospital in life-threatening condition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A young woman was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition after she was hit by a car in the New Town neighborhood of Jacksonville late Sunday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Traffic homicide detectives responded to the intersection of Kings Road and Tyler Street around 9 p.m.

Detective J.C. Hurst with JSO said three women between the ages of 18 to 23 were walking on the sidewalk when a car going westbound on Kings Street struck one of the women.

Hurst said a dog ran up to a fence as the women were walking by and frightened one of them, causing the woman to run into the road.

Hurst said the driver stopped at the scene.

The woman was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries. Her identity was not immediately released.
