City Council to pick location of Elections Center
2 locations each have support from city officials, council member
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A year-long debate about where to locate the Duval County Elections Center may come to an end next week with a vote by Jacksonville City Council.
Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland wants it to be at the One Imeson Center on the Northside. Mayor Alvin Brown is recommending that it remain at Gateway Mall under the terms of a new lease that includes building improvements and lower rent.
Lease agreements for either location would cost the city at least $3 million less over 10 years than the terms of the current lease of the Gateway center.
In preliminary votes, the city's Finance Committee is backing the Imeson location, but the Transportation, Energy and Utilities Committee is recommending Gateway.
The item is on next Tuesday's agenda for a final vote.
