1500 shoes donated to the City Rescue Mission
Shoe giveaway scheduled for the needy
JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – 1,500 new adult athletic shoes are being given away this morning at the City Rescue Mission's Thrift Store. If there are some shoes left, organizers say they'll plan another giveaway.
"An anonymous donation just called us up one day and told us he has 1500 shoes he'd like to donate. We told him we could help," said Penny Kievet who is the executive director for the City Rescue Mission.
The giveaway will run from 10 a.m. to noon, or until supplies last.
City Rescue Mission is a faith-based nonprofit that provides emergency services for the homeless and programs to help them get off the street. The giveaway is open to the entire community
"Each shoe is labeled with "John 3:16" and "Walk in Love," as well as the Inspire Christianity logo," said Kievet
The adult athletic shoes are available in adult women's sizes 6 to 10 and men's sizes 8½ to 12. One pair of shoes will be given per person in the proper size only.
"We are also giving away hot dogs, as well as other specialty items," said Kievet.
The City Rescue Mission thrift store is located at 5343 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville.
