Affordable back to school shopping for good cause

Proceeds go to help non profit for young girls

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This time next week many parents in our area will be making sure their children are ready for their first day of school.

A big part of that is clothing, and and many are looking for ways to save. A local thrift shop is offering discounted prices on first day must-haves.

A percentage of the store's sales support Girls Inc of Jacksonville. It's local nonprofit agency dedicated to helping at risk girls in the community be smart strong and bold.

The program serves the community and young girls through after school literacy summer and outreach programs including a teenage pregnancy prevention curriculum.

Girls Inc. board member Melissa Ross says, "I have two daughters myself so I'm happy to serve on serve on this board. I think it's important that we give girls especially at risk girls in Jacksonville all the tools they need to become socially and economically empowered."

Jax Thrift Avenue is a local thrift shop in Mandarin, which donates a portion of their proceeds to Girls Inc. of Jacksonville.

"You can go back to school shopping and support this cause," Ross says.

There are all kinds of items available from shirts and pants to shoes, purses and jewelry. Many Items are one dollar a piece and you can even get babies items for 50 cents a piece.
