24 foot boat was taking on water

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued 3 people who were aboard a boat that was rapidly taking on water of the coast of St. Augustine.

The Guard says it happened this morning about 20 miles off the St. Augustine inlet Saturday morning. The Guard says all boaters were wearing life jackets and were using buckets to bail water out of their 24 foot recreational vessel.

A boat crew from Mayport arrived on scene and used a dewatering pump to get the flooding under control.

The Coast Guardsmen towed the troubled vessel to the Villano Boat ramp.

The Coast Guard urges all boaters to use a VHF-FM marine radio as a primary means of distress notification since radios are more reliable than cell phones in the marine environment
