JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Part of Interstate 295 southbound between U.S. 1 and Pritchard Road was closed for hours Saturday after a tractor-trailer swerved off the road into trees.
A tractor-trailer driven by 54-year-old David McLauglin was heading south on I-295, north of Pritchard Road, when the trailer left the roadway for unknown reasons, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The trailer veered to the right and struck a pole on the west shoulder, then continued to veer on the southbound shoulder, hitting numerous trees.
The trailer came to rest off the west shoulder of I-295 southbound in between some trees.
The FHP said McLauglin, of Fernandina Beach, was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he is listed in critical condition.
