Walgreens robber gets 38 years in prison

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – A man who robbed one Walgreens and attempted to rob another has been sentenced to 38 years in federal prison.

John Spaulding, 22, received his sentence for two counts of armed robbery and two counts of discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court documents, Spaulding, armed with a 9mm pistol, robbed the Walgreens on Normandy Boulevard on June 13, 2012.

Spaulding fired the weapon into the ceiling during the robbery. No one was injured, but Spaulding got away with $144.

On July 18, 2012, Spaulding and an accomplice attempted to rob another Walgreens on Park Street. During the attempted robbery, Spaulding demanded prescription drugs and money, but the employee told Spaulding the pharmacy was closed.

At that time, Spaulding fired multiple shots into a door as he attempted to break into the pharmacy department.

Jacksonville Sheriff's responded to the scene and arrested Spaulding and his accomplice, as well as recovered the firearm.

Spaulding pleaded guilty on April 24.
