St. Johns County deputies search for armed robber

Same man may be responsible for 2 robberies

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Investigators in St. Johns County are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who is believed to have robbed one convenience store and robbed another over the weekend.

Deputies believe two incidents in Ponte Vedra over the weekend are connected. Both burglaries were caught on security camera and investigators believe the two are connected because the person in the surveillance video is wearing the same outfit.

Deputies said Saturday morning a man pried open the front door of a Gate gas station off State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra.

"Surveillance showed a subject dressed in all black, wearing a mask, going into the store while it was closed," said Sgt. Catherine Payne of the Sheriff's Office.

Payne told Channel 4 that the man burglarized the store then took off before deputies arrived. Deputies said the thief hit up a second convenience store nearby around 3 a.m. Sunday.

"Demanded money from the clerk and threatened the clerk with a handgun. That person was also wearing a mask, so at this point and time we believe both incidents are related," said Payne.

Anyone with information on these crimes is being asked to call Crime Stoppers 888-277-TIPS
