4 killed after shooting, police pursuit, crash

Miami-Dade police: Pursuit followed 2 women shot inside home

WEST BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Four people are dead in South Florida Wednesday following a shooting and two-county, high-speed police pursuit that led to a fatal crash.

Miami-Dade police said the driver of a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle shot two women -- 51-year-old Viviana Gallego and 28-year-old Anabel Benitez (pictured, below) -- inside a home in the 12300 block of Southwest 190th Street about 9:30 a.m. Investigators believe the shooting was related to a domestic incident.

One woman died at the house. The other was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The names of the women weren't immediately released.

Clinton Woodson, who lives nearby, said he saw the same SUV in the neighborhood on Tuesday.

"It's a shame that things like this have to happen," he said.

One of the shooting victims described the gunman and his vehicle to police, helping officers find him, detectives said.

The driver then led a police on a pursuit from Krome Avenue in Miami-Dade County to U.S. 27 in Broward County. About 10 a.m., the driver ran the red light at Griffin Road and slammed into another Mercedes-Benz, killing the woman driving that car.

"Our hearts go out to her and her family and their families," said Broward Sheriff Scott Israel. "You know, it's just a tragic incident from beginning to end."

When officers tried approaching the SUV, shots were fired, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. Four SWAT teams were then called.

About an hour later, the SWAT teams broke open the back window of the SUV, then converged on it. They found the driver dead inside.

Westbound Griffin Road remained closed to about 196th Avenue and northbound U.S. 27 remained closed northbound between Sheridan Street and Griffin Road.
