Man charged with homicide by vehicle in 21-year-old passenger's death

WOODBINE, Ga. – A 24-year-old St. Marys man has been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle in the death of a 21-year-old man who was a passenger in his car Sunday night.

Richard Ezzard is also charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, and failure to maintain a lane.

Camden County deputies said Ezzard's van struck a tree at a high speed just before 11 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Charlie Smith Sr. Highway and Mush Bluff Road.

The passenger in the van, Salvatore Hauser, of St. Marys, was extracted from the vehicle and taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he later died.

Deputies said the crash is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
