Husband of missing mom, kids attempts suicide
Officials say Luis Toledo attempted suicide at Volusia County Sheriff's Office
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Volusia County investigators said Luis Toledo, who they consider a person of interest in the disappearance and possible death of his wife, Yessenia Suarez, and their two children, attempted to kill himself Saturday morning.
Toledo was at the Volusia County Sheriff's Office's Operations Center in Daytona Beach talking with investigators Saturday morning when deputies say he was permitted to use the bathroom.
Toledo forced the doorway shut, smashed the mirror and used the mirror shards to cut himself, deputies said.
Deputies were able to quickly access the room and secure Toledo, officials said.
Toledo's injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening and he was transported by ambulance to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment for his cuts at about 11:30 a.m., officials said.
Toledo is being considered a person of interest in the disappearance of Yessenia Suarez and their two children on Wednesday. The Sheriff's Office has said they believe the woman, her 9-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son are dead, but their bodies have not been found.
Toledo was under arrest, but is only on a battery charge connected with an incident at Suarez's workplace on Tuesday.
"Keep in mind this is a very sensitive investigation and we want to sure it comes to a satisfactory conclusion," Sheriff's Office spokesman Brandon Haught said on Thursday. "We will make sure the family gets satisfaction when this is finally all over. Please bear with us."
