JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Everyone loves a good deal, and a glitch in Wal-mart's online shopping system lowered prices up to 90% on walmart.com Wednesday.
Items like computer monitors that are priced at thousands of dollars were listed at just $8.85.
Walmart was selling 24-inch TVs for $8.85 instead of their shelf cost of $578.89. Millions of items on the Walmart website were up for grabs at a fraction of the price they're worth.
Chasity Thompson purchased a power wheel car for one of her kids, the usual $300 item cost. Thompson spent just $30 for the item on Wednesday. It didn't take long for Thompson to realize that her deal was too good to be true.
"A friend of mine called me and said you've got to get on walmart.com. They have a great deal right now," said Thompson. "I got two Fisher Price ride-ons -- they're about $200 to $300 each -- and they were on sale for $29.97 a piece."
As customers started getting deals, they started sharing the deals they were getting on social media, wondering if the site was hacked and why things were so cheap.
Walmart released this statement to Channel 4 Wednesday night:
"Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they'll be refunded in full. In addition, we will send these customers a $10 e-gift card that can be used towards future purchases at Walmart stores and Walmart.com."
Wal-mart said the "technical glitch," not a hack, caused the website to offer the low pricing and that problem has now been fixed. Thompson admits it feels like the Grinch has stolen a bit of her Christmas cheer, but she understands mistakes happen.
"It's disappointing, but I am a logical person and I understand that mistakes happen with everybody, so I will gladly take whatever gift certificate they want to give for the inconvenience," said Thompson.
