1 dead, 1 critical in Pomona Park crash

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A 59-year-old Crescent City man driving a Lincoln Town Car was killed and a second driver critically injured early Friday afternoon in a head-on crash on U.S. 17 between Pomona Park and Crescent City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Roger Sheely was driving north just after 4 p.m. when his car drifted into the southbound lane and struck an oncoming Nissan Quest.   Both vehicles rotated 90 degrees and came to rest blocking both lanes of the highway.

Shelly was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center, where he died.  The second driver, Edward Ziemack, 56, of Pomona Park, was taken to UF Shands Medical Center in Gainesville with critical injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and the FHP report says there was no evidence alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Troopers said there would be no charges resulting from the accident.
