Weavers donate $100,000 to veterans center

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A donation by former Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Weaver is helping one local nonprofit help the veterans in the community.

The Weavers' Veterans Emergency and Transition Services Fund gave a $100,000 grant to the Five Star Veterans Center.

The Weavers had a prior commitment and couldn't attend Wednesday's event.

The center currently provides services for about two-dozen veterans.

They had been receiving funding from Allied Veterans of the World, but in the wake of that group's Internet cafe scandal, the center's future was uncertain. Now the center is looking for new sources of funding.

The center's CEO says this grant will help keep the doors open through the spring and will hopefully encourage others to donate to its cause.
