Family escapes St. Augustine house fire

Fire conained in attic above garage, cause under investigation

St. Augustine, Fla. – A family was able to escape a house fire in St. Augustine Thursday morning. Now, St. Johns County Fire Rescue is trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Just before 7 a.m. fire crews arrived on scene of a house fire on Stewart Street near West King Street.

There were three people home at the time of the fire: a man, a woman and a teen girl, but they were all able to get out before crews arrived, according to Jeremy Robshaw with SJCFR.

Firefighters from SJCFR and the City Fire Department are currently working to contain and extinguish the fire.

Robshaw said a majority of the damage seems to be in the attic above the garage with excess smoke damage throughout the home.

Drivers should expect significant traffic congestion in the immediate area of this incident.
