Daytona Beach clerk opens fire on armed robber

Robbery suspect crashes car while being chased by police

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A gunfight a inside a convenience store in Daytona Beach was caught on camera.

Police say 35-year-old Eric Scott Riddle brought a fake gun into Old Icehouse on Friday afternoon in an attempt to rob the store, but the clerk fought back.

In the surveillance video, a bold robber hops up on the counter and points a gun at the clerk. The clerk is startled, backs up, crouches down and, instead of handing over cash, grabs a gun.

That's when police say the clerk fired three rounds at the suspect, chasing him out of the store.

Police say they found Riddle in his car minutes later and he led them on chase. The car went southbound on Keech Street, where Riddle lost control. The car went through a chain-link fence and hit a tree before catching fire with Riddle trapped inside.

After officers pulled him out of the car, they found out the gun used in the robbery attempt wasn't a semi-automatic; it was a pellet gun.

Police say Riddle will face charges of armed robbery and fleeing and eluding.
