JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was shot in the hand while in her car at a gas station in Northwest Jacksonville on Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
At about 1:20 p.m., police were called to a drive-by shooting at a convenience store in the 2500 block of North Myrtle Avenue at West 16th Street. They said the shooting was unprovoked.
The woman, who had several children and her boyfriend in the car, drove herself to UF Health Jacksonville.
The kids and the boyfriend were not hurt.
Surveillance video from the gas station showed a cloud of dust from the force of the bullet, then the car is seen driving away.
Police were looking for a green Hyundai with damage to the front and tinted windows. They said there were at least two occupants.
One resident said he heard the shooting, which he said isn't the first at that gas station. He said there have been multiple incidents just in the last few months, and now he's thinking about moving out of town as a result.
"I've got two little girls, they're not mine," he said. "I can only imagine what I would go through if someone was shooting at my car with two girls in the car. I mean, how does it feel to be shot at when you have kids in the car? That's bad."
