Juror scam targets Nassau County residents

YULEE, Fla. – Nassau County Clerk and Comptroller John Crawford is warning residents about a scam that began in South Florida and has now reached Nassau County.

The scams involve fraudulent callers posing as Clerk's Office employees attempting to collect fines from potential jurors for missing jury duty, and requesting personal information after falsely claiming that an arrest warrant has been issued.

Crawford said anyone who may be needed for jury service will never receive an unsolicited call from the Clerk's Office about jury duty, nor will anyone ask for a juror's Social Security number.

"If you ever experience a call of this nature, hang up and call my office or the Nassau County Sheriff's Office immediately," Crawford said. "Do not give your personal information to anyone you don't know."

Prospective jurors receive a summons by mail that contains information that citizens have already provided to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
