Fire damages St. Augustine restaurant

SJCFR: Fire believed to have started in kitchen exhaust system

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A St. Augustine restaurant was damaged after an early morning fire Friday, according to St. Johns County Fire and Rescue.

Around 5 a.m., firefighters were called to Ned's Southside Kitchen located at 2450 U.S. 1 in St. Augustine in reference to a fire, according to SJCFR.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke showing from the eaves and the exhaust fan of the building, according to SJCFR.

SJCFR said firefighters were able to contain and put out the fire within about 15 minutes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters believe the fire may have started in the kitchen exhaust system.

The restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the fire. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries sustained during firefighting operations.

Firefighters are investigating to determine the extent of the damage.

The State Fire Marshal is also assisting SJCFR in the investigation.
