Fortune 500 company may expand in Jacksonville
Move would add 125 new employees and invest $900,000 into local economy
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sunshine Health is considering an expansion of its presence in Jacksonville.
A proposal to be filed with the Jacksonville City Council would add 125 new employees and invest $900,000 into the local economy. The council would have to approve the expansion.
"This is more great job news for Jacksonville," said Mayor Alvin Brown. Major companies are looking to Jacksonville as a great place to invest and do business. The result is a growing local economy with more jobs and more opportunities. This expansion also highlights the important and growing contribution of the health care industry to our local economy."
The company is also considering leasing additional office space near its existing offices.
Sunshine Health is a subsidiary of Fortune 500 health care company Centene Corporation. Centene is headquartered in St. Louis, Mo. In 2012, the company became number 303 on Fortune's 500 list, with earnings of $8.7 billion.
"This is a significant opportunity to create jobs and continue to build our local economy," said Jerry Mallot, president of JAXUSA Partnership, the economic development branch of the JAX Chamber. "We thank the Mayor's Office for its work on this proposal and look forward to discussing the importance of this project with the City Council."
Centene's Jacksonville location provides managed health care solutions based on state and local social health care programs. There are also locations in Sunrise, Tampa and Orlando.
