Victim hit in New Town drive-by shooting

JSO: Officers found car abandoned with several bullet holes in it

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are searching for a suspect who shot into a car, hitting a person early Thursday morning in the New Town area.

Around 3 a.m. someone pulled up to a white vehicle, along West Beaver Street at Cleveland Street, and fired several shots inside, hitting the driver in the arm.

"Officers arrived and located the victim's vehicle, the white vehicle in the roadway, abandoned with several bullet holes in it," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. J. C. Wilson.

Wilson said officers found out that the victim in that car was transported to UF Health by an unknown vehicle that stopped to help.

The victim sustained a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the right arm.

"There's no verified suspect or suspect vehicle. The suspect or suspects involved are outstanding," said Sgt. Wilson.

JSO's Violent Crimes Task Force was sent to UF Health to interview the victim.

The investigation is ongoing.

West Beaver Street was closed between Eaverson Street and Myrtle Avenue while JSO investigated for several hours. The roadway was reopened just before 6 a.m.

We have a crew on the scene gathering more details and as soon as we get them, we will update the story on News4Jax and on The Morning Show.
