JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Traffic was tied up on the Martin Luther King Expressway Tuesday at the exit for the Hart Bridge Expressway while crews worked to clean up a gas leak.
Police said a dump truck was traveling southbound on MLK Expressway, attempting to change lanes and exit onto the Hart Bridge Expressway ramp, when the driver of the dump truck noticed a vehicle already on the exit ramp next to him.
The truck driver overcorrected and swerved back to the left, striking the dividing wall on MLK and crashing through the wall.
The impact caused the fuel tank on the dump truck to rupture and leak onto the roadway.
Police said there was no environmental hazard, only a roadway hazard due to the diesel fuel leak.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue fire control crews contained the spill on the roadway.
MLK was re-opened Tuesday night at 6:45 p.m.
