Dispute leads to chase into Jacksonville
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident involving a woman who called and said her sister was kidnapped by her sister's boyfriend, ultimately resulting in a pursuit into Jacksonville.
The Sheriff's Office said the woman's sister was in a rental car with her boyfriend and they got into an argument. Deputies said they were told the boyfriend "put the woman out" of the car in the Tanglewood area.
Channel 4 was told that shortly after, the woman saw her sister's boyfriend driving the car and began to follow him.
Deputies said she caught up with the boyfriend, and as he attempted to get away, they had a collision in the Lowe's parking lot on Kingsley Avenue.
Officials said he left the scene, and they found the man driving on Blanding Boulevard. When they attempted to pull him over, deputies said, the man crashed into a car on Wells Road, fled the scene, and they pursued him toward Jacksonville.
Deputies said the man drove all the way to the intersection of Interstate 10 and Cassatt Avenue, where he crashed into a ditch.
The man was taken to Orange Park Medical Center to get checked out. Once he is cleared, he will be taken to the Clay County Jail, deputies said.
The man is facing a charge of felony fleeing and eluding, and a possible charge of aggravated battery for running into the car on Wells Road.
The sister was located and is OK. The Sheriff's Office has not released the names of those involved.
