FHP: Bicyclist struck, killed by SUV on Philips Highway

FHP: Cyclist crossed in front of oncoming traffic, hit by small SUV

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A bicyclist was killed Tuesday night on Philips Highway near Putnam Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist was identified as 36-year-old Belizario Ramirez, according to FHP.

The FHP told Channel 4 that Ramirez was heading northbound in the southbound lanes of Philips Highway, north of Putnam Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when the cyclist crossed in front of oncoming traffic and was hit by a small SUV.

Ramirez was ejected from his bike and died in the roadway.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 26-year-old Terrell Pinkney who was not hurt in the crash.

Pinkney and another witness was questioned Tuesday night by FHP.

FHP closed Philips Highway near Putnam Avenue for several hours while they investigated the crash.
