JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The driver of a Saturn was critically injured Wednesday afternoon when a distracted driver in a pickup truck veered into coming traffic and struck a car head-on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

All lanes of Normandy Boulevard at Manning Cemetery Road were closed for about two hours after the crash, which occurred just after 3 p.m.

Troopers say Miles Diehl, 61, of Jacksonville was driving east when the westbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by Adrew Shrum, 37, of Middleburg, crossed into the eastbound lane.  The Saturn ended in a ditch and the pickup overturned in the road.

Diehl was flown by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville.  Amy Diehl, 25, a passenger in the car, was also taken to UF Health Jacksonville.  Troopers say she had serious injuries.

Shrum was taken to St. Vincent's Clay County campus with minor injuries.

According to the FHP report, Shrum told troopers he was reaching for his phone when he veered into the oncoming lane.  He was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license, driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to use seat belt.
