Man arrested after single-car crash kills female passenger
Alcohol a factor in Columbia County wreck
COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Lake City man was arrested Thursday night after he was involved in a single-car accident that killed his 44-year-old female passenger.
Alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to police.
Waymon Earl Butts Jr., 34, was driving a 2005 Toyota sedan eastbound on Northwest Nash Road just east of Northwest Delray Circle in Columbia County. He lost control of the vehicle after driving through standing water on the roadway. The car traveled off the road into a large flooded area, flipped over and became submerged.
Rescue workers from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and Fire Department were able to pull the passenger, Sherriol Deniese Ingraham, out of the car after about 10 minutes. She was flown to UF Health at Gainesville, where she later died.
Butts was arrested at the scene and was booked into the Columbia County jail on multiple charges.
