Jax Beach Ocean Rescue pulls 2 men from water

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Lifeguards with Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue saved two men from the ocean Saturday afternoon.

Capt. Rob Emahiser with Ocean Rescue tells Channel 4 the men were in their 30s. The incident happened between 1st Avenue South and 2nd Avenue South. One man was transported to a hospital and the other man refused treatment.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue confirms it took a person to Beaches Baptist regarding a near drowning.

The names of the men are not known, nor is the condition of the man taken to the hospital.

Channel 4 Weather Authority Meteorologist Rebecca Barry said there was a moderate risk of rip currents today.

Emahiser also said strong winds made conditions ripe for rip currents.

"If you're caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore and wave your arms early for help. Our guys are watching the water. If they see arms, that catches our attention," said Emahiser.

Ocean Rescue says anytime they have to go in the water for a rescue they treat it as a life-threatening situation.
