Neptune Beach to vote on human rights resolution

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – The Neptune Beach City Council agreed on Monday to schedule a vote on a resolution that would add sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and martial status to the city's policy outlawing discrimination in employment.

Residents who have lived in Neptune Beach for more than three decades said they hope Jacksonville learns from their human rights issue.

"We've been following Neptune Beach's council's handling of the sexual orientation, gender identity and expression issues since they started with a resolution that they sent to Tallahassee to encourage them to support state-level legislation," said Kris Matson. "And we're very, very pleased that it is moving forward."

The city council heard comments from the public on the proposal on Monday.

A vote will be held June 2.
