Boy had to be pulled from under vehicle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 20-month-old boy was injured by a sport utility vehicle Monday afternoon on Daytona Beach, according to officials.

The accident happened around 2 p.m., just south of Ormond Beach.

Witnesses said the boy was dragged by the SUV and had to be pulled from under the vehicle.

"Mama turned her head for a split second and the next thing her little boy ran out," said Kevin Cobb, who saw the accident happen. "She turned around to chase him, but he beat her out into traffic."

The boy was taken to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. The boy's mother said he was discharged from the hospital Monday evening and was doing fine. She tells Local 6 the boy suffered burns from the exhaust and hot pipes under the SUV.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not filed any charges against the driver.
